EXCITING NEWS! OUR CIVIL WAR PORTFOLIO IS READY!

Over the past year the Museum has been working with photographer, Eduardo Galliani, to produce a folio filled with his exceptional black & white "tritone" photos of area battlefields and other Civil War-related scenes. We have chosen passages from soldier's letters, poems, or words from period songs to match each image, making this folio a one-of-a-kind commemorative book. This is our tribute to the 150th anniversary of the war.

Eduardo Galliani will be on hand at 'Tis the Seasonings II: A Holiday House, on Saturday, December 10th at the Koerner's home at 222 Park Avenue from 2-5pm to sign the books.

Any book purchased before December 30, 2011 will be specially priced... after the 1st of the new year, the books will be marked at their retail price.

Come by Tis the Seasonings, or stop by the museum from 12/11 - 12/30/11 to purchase this unique folio.

What a great gift for the man or woman who "has everything" ... we guarentee they won't have this!

For more information, or to reserve a book, call the Museum at 540-829-1749.

With these truly timeless images

From now through April of 2015 the Museum will be hosting special programs, tours, lectures, and exhibitions relating to the American Civil War; especially as it relates to the Culpeper region.

The Museum will close on Dec. 30th until the 1st Saturday in February so we can build "War Comes to Culpeper, 1862," the 2nd in the commemorative series of exhibitions.

THE EMERGING STORM: CULPEPER BRACES FOR WAR

We've had great responce to the first in a signature series of exhibitions commemorating the American Civil War. This series, sponsored in part by Dominion Virginia Power, the Gwynn Family Trust, WRG Foundation, and several other private foundations, has begun with "The Emerging Storm" focuses on the year 1861, when the Civil War loomed over the east, and Virginia began the laborous process of gearing up for the conflict.

The Emerging Storm is the first of 5signature shows at the Museum commemorating the Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War.

The Museum is now open daily, Mon-Sat., 10-5; Sun, 1-5pm.

Free to residents of Culpeper, town and country; only $3 to visitors, and always free to kids!

KIDZKORNERS

Hands-on Alert!

Children of all ages are encouraged to get on the floor and play at the Museum. There are three "KidzKorners" where children can get creative.

1. Name That Dinosaur: kids can choose their FAVORITE dino and name him or her by using little plastic letters. "Fredasaurious" can then go home with your youngster. There are several resource books, crayons, markers, and stickers available for creative play time with "Culley" the Culpeper dinosaur.

2. Play with your food: learn how Native Americans processed their food using a stone mortar and grinding stone (pestle). What do we use today to process our food?

3. Playing Dress up: Dig into a period trunk and find something that fits! Kids can see how children in colonial Virginia dressed to go "a visitin'".

4. "Camp Henry," a mini-sized camp tent, representative of those at Camp Henry, a Civil War encampment near Culpeper's Court House on present-day Yowell Meadow Park. Play to your heart's content!
